Terms and safeguards
Legal notice
These terms explain the purpose and limits of ColonialLifeComplaint.com.
1. Independent, noncommercial website
This is an independent, noncommercial public-information website created by or for the plaintiffs in Van Der Werff & Vaughn v. Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company et al., federal case number 6:26-cv-00746-ECC-MJK. It is not owned, operated, sponsored, approved, or endorsed by Colonial Life, The Paul Revere Life Insurance Company, Colonial Voluntary Benefits, Unum Group, or any defendant.
2. Allegations are not findings
This site reports on a judicial proceeding and presents the plaintiffs' account. Statements attributed to the complaint are allegations. They are disputed and unresolved unless a later public order expressly states otherwise. No court finding, admission, liability determination, or damages award should be inferred from the existence of the complaint.
3. Personal statements are identified separately
The homepage includes first-person statements regarding current financial and emotional hardship. Those statements are supplied by the plaintiffs, are current only as of the stated update date, and are not court findings. They should not be confused with allegations quoted or summarized from a filing.
4. Public-record sourcing
Substantive case descriptions should remain substantially accurate to identified public filings. Headings are summaries, not quotations. The official docket and filed documents control over any website summary. Material not contained in or fairly derived from a public filing should not be added without legal review and reliable support.
5. Commentary to prospective producers
Statements advising agents and brokers to think carefully, obtain independent counsel, or ask specific contracting questions are expressions of opinion and general risk-awareness commentary based on the plaintiffs' stated experience. They are not a claim that every producer will have the same experience and are not legal, insurance, employment, or financial advice.
6. No harassment, pressure, or interference
This website does not request or encourage visitors to contact, pressure, threaten, harass, impersonate, review-bomb, dox, boycott, disrupt, or otherwise interfere with any party, employee, witness, customer, lawyer, business, court, or prospective juror. No one should contact the defendants on the plaintiffs' behalf. Do not use information from this site for unlawful, abusive, retaliatory, or intimidating purposes.
7. No confidential submissions
Do not send confidential, privileged, medical, financial, employment, policyholder, customer, employee, or minor-related information. Unsolicited submissions are not confidential and may need to be preserved, disclosed, or provided to counsel or a court as required by law.
8. Privacy
This static website is designed without advertising trackers, analytics scripts, user accounts, or a server-side contact form. The hosting provider may still create ordinary server logs. The hosted complaint copy redacts personal contact information, signatures, notary credentials, and the name of a separate non-party business. The official docket copy remains controlling.
9. Trademarks and nominative reference
Company names are used only to identify the subjects of the litigation and public commentary. All trademarks and service marks belong to their respective owners. The site does not use company logos, imitate official trade dress, sell goods or services, display advertising, solicit donations, or claim affiliation.
10. External links
Links to courts, PACER, docket services, or third-party sources are provided for convenience. The site does not control those services and does not guarantee their completeness, availability, or timeliness.
11. Corrections and right of reply
Good-faith correction requests supported by public records are welcome. A verified representative or counsel for a defendant may submit a response or link to a public filing. The site may decline material that is unverifiable, irrelevant, abusive, confidential, legally restricted, or unsafe to publish.
12. Continuing litigation
Because the case is ongoing, website content may become outdated. Do not rely on this site for deadlines or procedural status. Before any material update, compare the language to the newest public order and obtain legal review where possible.
13. No legal advice
The website provides general public information and the plaintiffs' perspective. It does not provide legal, tax, insurance, employment, or financial advice and does not create an attorney-client relationship.
14. Contact
Questions, corrections, media inquiries, and attorney inquiries may be sent to contact@coloniallifecomplaint.com.
